I remember walking down the street, at 1 am, holding my husband's hand on January 1st, 2012. I turned to him and said, "If tonight is any indication of how our year will be, I can't wait!"
It was our first New Years Eve out in Austin. We were with another couple who has become such great friends of ours. We dressed snazzy, we visited bars from down & divey to classy wine bars. We laughed, we smiled, we danced our butts off & we rang in the New Year right. I remember the entire night being easy, completely drama free & seriously fun. After our night out, we all headed back to their house (where Alyssa had been all night with a family friend) and camped out on some air mattresses. I woke up on January 1st with my 2 favorite people right by my side & I had a gut feeling that this was going to be an awesome year.
It was just that and more. 2012 brought a new sense of calm to my life. The stress, the worry, the crap of 2011 was behind me and I was ready to make 2012 great on my own terms. I finally came to realize that life is what YOU make it. We became very close as a family of 3, and this year was definitely the year we spent the most time together. Practically inseparable. Tony & I both had some big career moves, and although we are working our tails off right now, we're happy with where it's going. Alyssa is kicking butt in middle school. I sometimes wonder where she gets the energy to focus on school, dance, sing, act & practice with weekly voice lessons (all while being a crazy kid who climbs trees & rides bikes through the neighborhood daily). Her current state pretty much sums up a lot about her...both knees are solid scars & scabs, her right hand is scarred from her pinkie to her wrist, her left hand is scratched up (a good fall off a scooter) but she straightens her hair & wears lip gloss & accessorizes her outfits. My bruiser with some style.
2012 also brought some great people into our lives. I got to see my mom 3 times this year, we got to travel to Seattle for my cousins wedding & we've met people who will be lifelong friends. Tony will be the best man in a wedding in 5 days & it's crazy to think that last year at this time we didn't even know these people. We ate tons of Texas BBQ, found a real Mexican food restaurant (MAJOR highlight of 2012) and walked, hiked & explored or way through Austin.
It was a good year for us. Simple, stable, stress free...I have zero complaints.
Thank you 2012 for being kind to the Monfort 3.
It was a year of great health, incredible happiness & positive vibes. We couldn't ask for more.
Cheers!!
